GRWM Playlist of the Week – March 5th, 2017
Hi guys! I managed to produce a solid look this week, despite the chaos of the week itself. I spent most of the week doing busy-mom things. On Thursday, my baby girl had her four-month shots. I was dreading the thought of her hurting but she took it like a champ and probably made it out better than we did. Anyway, this week’s playlist reflects the experience of me going through older music as well as discover something new! It’s been an R&B-and-hip-hop type of week for me. When I need an emotional re-awakening and want to get the good vibes flowing, R&B usually hits the spot. So check out the songs that did it for me this week in my GRWM Playlist!
1. Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player) – Marsha Ambrosius (Late Night and Early Mornings)
Man, I lmao’d the first time I heard this song and before this week, it had been a while since I’d heard it. Seriously, take a listen to this one if you haven’t already – if you’ve ever been in a similar situation, it’ll give you a chuckle. It’s so relatable.
2. Purple Rain – Prince (Purple Rain)
The GOAT of this list. Purple rain is classic! Who doesn’t love a little Prince? Who doesn’t burst out singing (and maybe crying) when you hear that beginning guitar solo? I definitely do, no shame! Purple rain, Purple rain!
3. That’s What I Like – Bruno Mars (24K Magic)
My first time hearing this song was this week, and I immediately downloaded the rest of the album when it was finished. This song has an early 90s R&B feel with a 2017 update. It’s sexy and smooth, which aligns just right with Bruno’s style. Add a bangin’ video to the mix and you have my undivided attention.
4. Redbone – Childish Gambino (“Awaken, My Love”)
I don’t know what it is about this song that I like, but I call it a “space-out” song – a good song that gets you into your zone so you can get stuff done. It’s long and slow, but it flows just right. It’s different than what I’m used to hearing from Childish Gambino a.k.a. Donald Glover, but I like it nonetheless.
5. So Fresh, So Clean – OutKast (Stankonia)
Outkast is somewhat of a big deal in my household; my husband is a major fanboy, and he knows most of their songs word for word. My devotion may not be that strong, but I do have my favorites, and So Fresh, So Clean is one of them. You hear the beat hit when the song starts and you immediately want to bob your head (which may be a little dangerous when you’re putting on eyeliner, but it’s oh so satifying xD).
What songs were you playing on repeat this week? Let me know in the comments below!
